Brian Jarvi
Brian Jarvi has been drawing and
sketching since childhood. He has always been fascinated by wildlife and
it was natural to combine his love of the outdoors with his love of art.
Jarvi uses firsthand observations and his own photo research to create
realistic portrayals of wildlife by combining intricate detail, dramatic
lighting, and anatomical accuracy. His popularity is ever-growing and he
is widely known for his "up close and personal" compositions -
visual immediacy combined with an ability to camouflage wildlife in its
natural environment.
Jarvi is the first artist to win both the Minnesota Duck and Pheasant
contests in consecutive years and only the second artist in history to win
both of Minnesota's major stamp prints contests. His awards and honors
include: 1987 Minnesota Duck Stamp; 1987 Minnesota Pheasant Stamp; 1991
Arizona Duck Stamp; Judge's Merit Award, 1987 National Wildlife and
Western Art Show; "People's Choice" Award, 1988 Minnesota
Wildlife Heritage Foundation Art Show; Artist of the Year 1990 National
Wildlife and Western Art Show in Minneapolis, Minnesota; 1990 Artist of
the Year National Wild Turkey Federation; "Best of Show" Award,
1991 National WIldlife Exposition; Judge's Merit Award, 1991 National
Wildlife and Western Art Show.
Jarvi has a great deal of concern for the environment. His artwork has
helped raise money for conservation organizations such as Pheasants
Forever, Minnesota Waterfowl Association, National Wild Turkey Federation,
Ducks Unlimited, The American Oceans Campaign, and the Washington
Department of Natural Resources.
