Stephen Hamrick
Steve Hamrick likes to paint what he sees
and in the way he sees it. The landscapes of places he has traveled and
hunted, as well as animals that he has seen and experienced, are the images
that flow freely from his brush.
Hamrick graduated with honors in biology
and business economics from Gustavus Adolphus College. While in college, he
took two art courses, but the instructors "frowned on realism so I found
myself in classes that laid the groundwork for pre-med and pre-law degrees.
After graduation, I felt something was missing, but wasn't really sure what
it was. I decided against medical and law schools, because you only get one
crack at life so you might as well do something you love." Since 1981, he
has been fully committed to his art.
Hamrick has twice won both the Minnesota
Trout and Salmon stamp contests. He lives in a Minneapolis suburb with his
wife, their two children, and their black lab.
