several hundred public, corporate and private collections in the United
States and abroad. She has won numerous awards and has illustrated
three books. Her home and studio are in a renovated schoolhouse in
Denver.
Barbara Froula is a painter of urban
places. "The city is what excites me to paint - the geometric forms of
the skyline, the play of light on the detail of an older building, the
visual narrative that unfolds as people interact." Signage and street
activity add color and pattern to her work, as they do tot he city.
The clarity of light and transparent colors of the paintings transmit her
excitement to the viewer.
While historic structures often have an
important role in the paintings, the artist paints not with nostalgia, but
from a contemporary viewpoint. "My interest extends beyond the
wonderful shapes and rich detail these buildings provide, to show them as
part of our lives, a backdrop for activity."
