Robert Lebron
(1928-)
Robert Lebron developed his own personal technique during an extensive stay
in Spain. The difficult art of rendering buildings and city scapes with a
palette knife is one quality that distinquishes his work. More essential to
his art is his ability to capture the sights, smells, emotions and the
overall impression of a particular scene. By forgoing photographic detail
for the impressions of light and shade expressed by the palette knife,
Lebron communicates emotions ranging from joy to solemn reflection.
Lebron has been painting professionally for almost forty years and is
recognized as an important American impressionist. He has had numerous
successful shows and exhibitions and the number of collectors of his work is
growing steadily. His paintings can be found in prestigious collections in
the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Great Britain, and Japan
Lebron was born in 1928 in New York City. As a young man, he delved into
arts, and at the age of 14 began his studies at New York's High School of
Music and Arts. He studied for three years before he gave in to his youthful
impatience and joined the United States Air Force, taking liberties with his
parents' signatures in order to join under age. He soon started drawing
cartoons for the camp newspaper and quickly graduated to the animation
department of the Air Force's motion picture unit. It was here that he
worked with several Walt Disney artists who were working with military as
civilians. Returning to New York, he attended the Arts Students' League for
five years. Such prominent artists as Norman Rockwell, Remington, and Clark
Hulings had also studied at this prestigious school.
